Uriah Heep - Live [January 1973]

Uriah Heep Live es un album doble en vivo del grupo de rock británico Uriah Heep. Fué publicado en Mayo de 1973 bajo el sello Bronze Records en el Reino Unido y en Abril de 1973 bajo el sello Mercury Records en los Estados Unidos. Fué el primer album en vivo de la banda. Además de la versión en vivo de el hit de la banda "Easy Livin'", el album incluye cortes clásicos en vivo como "Sweet Lorraine", "Sunrise" y una versión extendida en vivo de "July Morning".

Mientras la banda estaba de gira en los Estados Unidos, el album alcanzó el #13 en los charts del Reino Unido. También fué certificado como Disco de Oro por la RIAA  en Ocutbre del 73, siendo este su tercer album de oro en los Estados Unidos. Wikipedia

Uriah Heep Live quizás sea el título original pero con el paso del tiempo el album a llegado a ser conocido como Live 73.  Este se posiciona como la que es quizás la grabación más sobresaliente que Uriah Heep sacó. En muchos aspectos este refleja la magia y la dirección que la banda tenía. La mayoría de las canciones de estudio sonaron mejor en esta grabación en vivo que en la versión original de los  albumes de estudio.

El hecho de que este album fuera hecho solo para cumplir con un contrato con Mercury Records en los Estados Unidos y que, ni la gerencia, ni la banda ni los promotores lo tomaran seriamente a la primera, es asombroso. 

 Donde se grabó el concierto?

Hay una interrogante sobre si el album Live 73 no fué grabado completamente en un concierto. Todd Fisher, que era miembro del personal de Heep en ese momento, ha teorizado que el álbum fue compilado de diferentes conciertos de esa gira (British Tour January 73) por el Reino Unido. Sus notas de la gira indicaron que varios shows estaban programados para ser grabados, aunque el concierto del 26 de enero en el Birmingham Town Hall (Ayuntamiento de Birmingham) no fué uno de ellos. Todd especuló que el concierto de Birmingham fué grabado como respaldo de último recurso. Sin embargo, oficialmente se acepta que el concierto grabado para el album Live 73 es el del 26 de Enero de 1973 en el Birmingham Town Hall de Inglaterra. 

Siendo una parte muy importante de la gira de la banda, Todd también tuvo el honor de presentar a la banda cada noche. Su voz es la que se escuchó en el primer disco de este álbum, "Damas y caballeros, ¡sean ustedes bienvenidos, por favor, el propio Uriah Heep de Inglaterra!"

Live 73 tenía una portada sencilla, pero aún así muy memorable para todos los fans. El álbum original en funda doble desplegable tenía un folleto impreso extenso con fotos de cada miembro y firmas impresas. El vinilo original se ha convertido en un artículo de colección en todo el mundo tan solo por la funda en sí. 

La aprobación del album provino de críticos y admiradores en conjunto. En el Reino Unido, el álbum se mantuvo en las listas durante 8 semanas y alcanzó la posición # 23 mientras que Heep estaba de gira por los Estados Unidos. En Estados Unidos, Live 73 estuvo en las listas durante 30 semanas, el segundo album que ha estado durante más tiempo en las listas alcanzando el lugar número 37. Deep Purple - Live On The BBC (1980)

Grabado por primera vez el 9 de Marzo de 1972 para la BBC, Deep Purple en concierto no fue lanzado hasta 1980 y ¡qué lanzamiento! Esto es Deep Purple al máximo de su juego. Para hacer esta colección aún más espectacular, dos de los mayores éxitos de Deep Purple han sido añadidos como bonus tracks. En 1968, Hush llegó a las listas americanas y subió al número 4. En 1969, River Deep Mountain High alcanzó el puesto # 53 en las listas de Billboard. En River Deep Mountain High, la banda se mantuvo fiel al "muro de sonido" de Phil Spector.

Deep Purple Live On The BBC es efectivamente el álbum Machine Head en vivo, con seis de las siete canciones de ese álbum, seguidas del encore del estándarte del rock and roll de Little Richard, "Lucille".

Este show en vivo (previamente difícil de encontrar) captura la clásica alineación del Mark II de Deep Purple en todo su poder incendiario.
Esta actuación -básicamente la totalidad del entonces recién realizado album Machine Head, con la excepción de "Pictures of Home"-, es fácilmente tan bueno, y en ocasiones mejor que el Made in Japan, grabado cinco meses después.
La banda aparentemente sintió que las cintas de Japón eran de inferior calidad, e inicialmente no las querían lanzar, lo que hace de esta grabación argumentablemente el más potente documento  de un show en vivo del grupo en ese año.
Esta  versión híbrida SACD agrega versiones de estudio de "Hush" y "River Deep Mountain High" de la alineación Mark I para completar el tiempo de reproducción, una de las canciones en vivo, su versión de "Lucille" de Little Richard, solo está disponible en el SACD. Eso significa que cualquier persona que no tenga un reproductor SACD no será capaz de escucharlo, pero podrá reproducir las dos pistas de estudio, una decisión desconcertante que no se explica en las notas del libreto incluído. En cualquier caso, en las cintas en vivo de la BBC se encuentra al Purple golpeando a través de estas canciones como si tuvieran algo que probar.
Aunque en el primer concierto grabado por Deep Purple para las series "In Concert" de la BBC llevado a cabo el 19 de Febrero de 1970 tocaron la tremenda "Child in Time", en el concierto gemelo llevado a cabo el 9 de Marzo de 1972 "Child In Time" se sustituyó por "Maybe I'm a Leo" y "Never Before", dos canciones que además de no "hacerla" en el tracklist del Made In Japan, fueron tocadas para promocionar el nuevo álbum Machine Head, lanzado a fines de ese mes (Marzo de 1972).

Rod Stewart - Another Country

En 2013 cuando Elton John realizó su album "The Diving Board", el fué presentado con un  BRITs Icon Award por su amigo Rod Stewart. Esto le propició una gran oportunidad al para divertirse cada uno a expensas del otro. "Tengo muchas ganas de escuchar tu nuevo album", comentó Stewart , "como se llama? El burro de planchar?". Y yo he escuchado que realmente escribiste algunas canciones en tu nuevo album" replicó John, "Como se llama? Rarezas?".

El dió al clavo: las 11 canciones que Rod Stewart co-escribió en el album Time del 2013 representó la primera contribucion substancial en composición de canciones que el haría a uno de sus albumes después de 25 años. Siendo nunca un fan de la composición, la cuál el admitió conisderarla como una distracción irritante de el más apremiante negocio de salir y disfrutar de sí mismo...Stewart dejó de molestar por completo después del "Out Of Order" de 1988. Para volver a dar guerra habiendo impulsado al album "Time" hasta la cima de los charts Británicos, su primer album de estudio en hacer desde 1976. Es comprensible sus subsecuentes esfuerzos por repetir el truco. El nombre de Stewart aparece en los nombres de todas las canciones excepto en dos.

Quizás nadie resultó tan sorprendido por el regreso de Rod Stewart a la composición que el mismo Rod Stewart. Rod no se había molestado en componer una meldía en cerca de dos décadas, cuando el decidió escribir un nuevo montón de canciones para "Time" del 2013, un album que fué inspirado en parte por el libro editado el 2012 "Rod The Autobiography". 
Llegando casi diez años después de los albumes "The Great American Song Book", el cambio en estilo y canciones fué refrescante, algo que los fans (y algunos críticos) notaron. Para "Another Country" Stewart decidió darles lo que ellos querían: otro conjunto de canciones originales aumentado por un cover de Steve Harley  astutamente elegido: "A Friend For life" ( en la Edición de Lujo, Stewart se muestra aún más irreverente al cantar una vez más "In A Broken Dream" de Python Lee Jackson la cuál el canto en 1978).  

Gary Moore - Live At Bush Hall 2007 - Sept. 22 2014

Llevado a cabo en el año 2007 en el Bush Hall (Salón Bush), un pintoresco lugar en en Londres con una capacidad para 400 personas, el álbum de Gary Moore - 'Live At Bush Hall 2007' - capta un concierto muy intimista promocional para el álbum "Close As You Get" que fué realizado en ese momento, (Mayo 25 2007).

Gary trabajó en conjunto con la estación de radio Planet Rock y las entradas fueron regaladas para un espectáculo íntimo en Londres en el Bush Hall. El concierto fué transmitido por Planet Rock.

Gary Moore gozó de una reputación de guitarrista virtuoso con su Gibson Les Paul personalizada y su Fender Stratocaster. El interpretó una gran variedad de géneros desde el Hard Rock y el Heavy Metal hasta el Blues Rock pasando por el Jazz Fusion y el Progresive Rock. Gran cantidad de colegas compartieron el escenario con él, colegas como George Harrison, Greg Lake y Albert King, por mencionar un ejemplo.

A pesar de lo comentado su mas consistente influencia musical fué el Blues de la Vieja Escuela.

Esa noche la banda ofreció una velada de regreso a lo básico y desnuda de todo lo sobrante musicalmente hablando, con Gary Moore en la guitarra y las vocales, Pete Rees en el bajo y Vic Martin en los teclados . Brian Downey, un camarada veterano de Thin Lizzy  y músico en el album "Close As You Get" nuevamente compartió con Moore en la batería.

La idea de una leyenda del Blues moderno de hoy tal como Gary Moore tocando en una habitación íntima sería el sueño hecho realidad de la mayoría de los fans y esta grabación en vivo y este disco en vivo les da a todos los que no pudieron estar allí la oportunidad de poseer y disfrutar de este singular y electrizante show.

Mientras que es verdad que "Live At Bush Hall 2007" carece de éxitos conocidos (la mayoría de estas canciones reproducidas eran de su -entonces- último album) y este disco puede, de entrada, atraer a mas fans incondicionales del guitarrista irlandés que aquellos que no están tan familiarizados con su vasto catálogo de trabajo. Los solos brillantes de Gary Moore y su gran pasión por la música hacen de este un album que es una recompensa escuchar para cualquier fan del Blues.

Fuck Yer Ya-Ya's Out! es un bootleg CD de 1997 de The Rolling Stones. El album es una transferencia de el Acetato de la Apple Records "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!" el cuál presenta diferencias respecto a la versión final, incluyendo un número de detalles extras que fueron editadas ó removidas. Este fué realizado por A Vinyl Gang Product.

Get Yer Ya-Ya´s Out! es el único album de the RSque fué cortado en Apple acetates. Aparentemente, los  estudios Apple ofrecían un servicio de corte de acetatos el cuál fué usado por otros marcas grabadoras. Hay otros ejemplos de acetatos Apple de bandas que no realizaron nada en Apple Records tales como Slade, The Zombies, The Who, Rolling Stones, Fairport Convention,...

APPLE solo imprimió estos acetatos por corta tiempo entre 1968-1970 – el mostrado al lado fué impreso en November de 1969 y no fué emitido con funda de album. Estos acetatos fueron distribuidos en fundas de papel normal.

 Este vinyl es tan raro, que fué difícil encontrar mucha información sobre el, lo que si es sabido es que este es una impresión de prueba de la primera mezcla de lo que luego llegaría a ser el "Get Your Ya-Yah's Out" album. Hay muchas diferencias entre esta mezcla y la que terminaría siendo realizada.

Elton John - Live At Hammersmith Odeon (1973) (40th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition)

Elton John Live at the Hammersmith Odeon, a  December 22nd 1973 gig across two CDs.
Elton’s in fine voice and the performances are note-perfect. It’s charming to hear a freshly-minted Candle In The Wind (“this is a song about Marilyn Monroe”) without the baggage, and the ‘greatest hits’ that would serve him well for the next four decades (Daniel, Rocket Man, Crocodile Rock etc.) are all present and correct.
 It is an oft-bootlegged one that most fans will already have but it’s a stormer – ‘Rocket Man’ is predictably gigantic and set closer ‘Your Song’ undoubtedly iconic. It’s hard not to wish though, that when he introduces his most famous song ‘Candle In The Wind’ as being “about Marilyn Monroe” that it had stayed that way, a fragile, heartfelt song about a distant legend, rather than suffering the indignity of worthless regurgitation so many years later as a symptom of a country’s borderline perverted obsessions.

Ian Paice’s Sunflower Superjam - Live At The Royal Albert Hall 2012

It was in 2012 when drum legend Ian Paice arranged a concert in the Royal Albert Hall in London. He called it the "Ian Paice's Sunflower Superjam". It was actually meant to be a private charity event that the iconic drummer organised together with his wife Jacky. The couple managed to bring together a bunch of excellent and well-kown musicians that supported them that night. The result was an outstanding evening with some of the most important heores in rock.

 Luckily this event didn't stay just a private one. The concert was recorded and filmed and we all can join in via CD or DVD/BluRay.

 The guys who performed the songs sound like the 'who is who' of rock. Names like Bruce Dickinson, Alice Cooper, Uli Jon Roth, Brian May, John Paul Jones and Ian Paice are a guarantee for excellent live music. Bruce Dickinson sings "Black night" from Deep Purple and does a great Gillan-like scream in the beginning - introduced by a "You now what comes next". He does a great job and having Brian May on the six string makes this version evem more special. Alice Cooper is performing "Elected" and the Cooper-hit "School's out". The first track supported by Uli Jon Roth on guitar while Brian May plays the axe on "School's out". Very cool stuff.

 With "Pictued within" also Jon Lord (R.I.P.) was honored that night. The soulful intepretation of Steve Balsamo is awesome and gets under your skin. Uli Jon Roth added an old Scorpions song, "The sails of Charon" from the "Taken by force" album, to the show and also "Since you've been gone", with Brian May in the lead, is just a treat for your ears.

 "Ian Paice's Sunflower Jam" is an impressive document of an extraordinary evening. Each rock fan should call this record his own. This is music history in all meanings of the words.

Reasons Why

The Sunflower Jam is the brainchild of Jacky Paice, wife of Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice. Founded in 2006, Jacky was inspired to help those fighting cancer and other diseases after meeting a 16 year old boy named Kevin. Kevin had leukaemia and a friend of Jacky's who headed the complimentary therapy care team at the University College London called her and asked for a favour. Kevin needed a boost to pull him through and, as a Deep Purple fan, he asked Jacky if she would get Ian to sign something and send it to him. Not only did she organise that, but Jacky also called her brother-in-law Jon Lord (RIP) and asked them both to deliver the signed merchandise. Needless to say the boy was over the moon. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the ultimate going away present as Kevin passed away two weeks after. Since then, Jacky has organised high-profile, classic rock events which, after outgrowing their original venue, have now moved to the Royal Albert Hall and other iconic London venues.

 All in all, documents like this should be in every rock aficionado's collection, if not for the charity character then surely for the uniqueness of it, Brian May seriously fucking up the end of the aforementioned "Black Night" included. The biggest and best UK rock artists on one stage, every year, and clearly having fun doing so. Nothing wrong with that now, I say. (KVK)

The Beatles - The White Album [The Beatles] (1968)

The Beatles or "The White album" as it became better known was released on 22nd November, 1968 on the fifth anniversary of their second album, With The Beatles. A total of 34 new tracks were released in 1968 and 30 were contained on this one double-LP.

  The White Album, is the ninth studio album by  The Beatles. A double album, its plain white sleeve has no graphics or text other than the band's name embossed (and, on the early LP and CD releases, a serial number).

  Following the recording of their single "Lady Madonna" in February, the Beatles flew to Rishikesh, India for several weeks of meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi during which they enjoyed a prolific period of song writing. Recording began at Abbey Road on 30th May and studio work occupied most of their time until the final session in mid October.

 The colourful artwork that had adorned Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Magical Mystery Tour albums was absent here. The double wallet merely had words The BEATLES embossed on the front cover. Early copies also had a individual number stamped on the front. Inside the package along with the two discs wrapped in black inner sleeves were four individual photographs of the guys and a folded poster containing a photo-collage with the lyrics to the songs on the reverse.

 The Beatles was the group's first album to appear on the Apple label. The change from Parlophone to Apple had first taken place with the release of the "Hey Jude" single in August, 1968.

Dubbed by Rolling Stones magazine as one of the most influential albums in musical history, the Beatles’ “White Album” embodies the band possibly at its finest. The album itself was originally titled “The Beatles”. Nonetheless, it eventually became known as the “White Album” due to its iconic white cover artwork of the album along with the continual use of the term “The White Album” by media. In contrast to its predecessor, “Sgt. Pepper”, and every other previous album they had released the “White Album” was specially recorded for stereo. The Beatles themselves were in the studio to approve the stereo mixes causing the album to be considered a landmark in the band’s history.
